At first sight, Locke at East Side Gallery in the alternative Berlin district of Friedrichshain may seem just another brand new hospitality project overlooking the River Spree and the remains of the once dreadful Berlin Wall –probably the most eloquent architectural manifestation of repression in the modern world and now the most impressive memorial of a not so distant era.

This ambitious hospitality project is one of the seventeen current destinations the British hotel chain Locke Living offers around Europe in vibrant cities such as London, Lisbon or Dublin. These aparthotels, in their own words, “design-led and locally inspired”, pursue a more conscious approach to the city, the locals and their way of living.

In line with this philosophy, the intention behind Locke at East Side Gallery is reflecting on a micro scale what the capital city of Germany has become after the fall of the Wall: a melting pot of cultures and subcultures, ethnicities, fashion, music, art and design all deeply steeped in history and a genuine stance towards the future.

Inspired by the Berlin Wall

Designed by Grzywinski+Pons, an architecture and design firm based in New York, Locke at East Side Gallery hotel stands next to the longest surviving section of the Berlin Wall with its famous murals and graffiti, nowadays an open-air museum known as the East Side Gallery.

This stylish and modern hotel consists of 176 studios and suites plus several public spaces ranging from the usual ones (café, bar, lounge, sky-high gym) to those not so recent, but increasingly prominent and popular (co-working and event spaces). Most of them are on the ground floor separated by discontinuous walls evoking the vestiges of the adjacent Berliner Mauer so as not to break the sense of deliberate wholeness of the design concept.

How do you like Fontal rattan armchair painted in pink?

Walking through these neighbouring spaces, where architectural elements, design objects and nature coexist in harmony, it is possible to find one of our most renowned rattan classics: Fontal rattan armchair by Oscar Tusquets Blanca. Upholstered and painted in pastel pink for the occasion, Fontal rattan armchair smoothly blends in with the soft palette of blush, mint, champagne, pearl and white present all over the space in rugs, rattan screens, porcelain and floors.

What makes Fontal classic rattan armchair with its upholstered cushion fitting for so many different hospitality projects is its natural warmth, its superior comfort and its resistance to the wear and tear. Our customizable Fontal rattan chair with cushion is not just a versatile design, but a finest piece of classic rattan furniture and a mark of distinction.

Gres stool, a statement in green

Everywhere verdant vegetation spills out of planters and cascades from the ceiling. The chlorophyll seems to drip from the plants and soak the silky suede rugs and the delicate Gres rattan stools strategically placed here and there like mushrooms popping out after the autumn rain. Green as the pine forests and the olives from the Mediterranean where Miguel Milá gave birth to it, this classic rattan counter stool suits residential and hospitality projects alike.

Gres upholstered stool offers casual, but comfortable seating and adds texture to the ensemble with its exquisitely crafted rattan legs and the high-quality textiles used in its cushion. Gres rattan stool is an old chap that keeps growing younger and always contemporary. A true Benjamin Button of design.
