Place
Sydney, Australia
Casual, beautiful and modern, 12-Micron is a new restaurant, lounge and dessert bar with a great view over Sydney Harbour. This ambitious project designed by the Melbourne-based studio SJB has already become a crowd favourite, not just because its savoury Aussie dishes, but also because its unique interiors.
12-Micron draws on the colours and tones of the spotted gum timber (a native tree species) used in some of the décor elements with an appealing palette of dusky pink furniture, grey stone and earthy tableware. Upholstered Fontal chairs, the iconic rattan chair created by Oscar Tusquets Blanca, in mogano and black along with fluffy pink sofas provide seating for up to 230 guests.
Actual spotted gum has been planted throughout the place together with other native plants such as wattles or banksias. According to SJB, the design took into account the relationship between Sydney’s flora and its urban context represented by the grid pattern of the grey tiles and cobbles wrapping both floors and walls.
